WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene)
According to the identification of needs of the AFIMAD communities, we have implemented projects to ensure access to water in two native communities. Between 2013 and 2014, in the indigenous village of Boca Pariamanu a system of collection and distribution of piped water was implemented and managed to provide each of the 20 families with a private bathroom with shower and sink. In the indigenous village of Palma Real, asustainable collection system pumping water through a non-electrical waterwheel was implemented for the 56 families of the village.
The projects have been implemented thanks to a funding from Body Shop, a longtime client of Amazon nut oil, and a personal contribution from Candela. The villages have actively contributed to projects by providing hand labor. In 2014, thanks to a cooperation agreement signed between Candela and Bicocca University of Milan (Italy), a Master graduate in “Land Use and Water Management for Developing Countries” got involved in Candela’s team through an active collaboration in the activities of the WASH program.
